Cherchi & De Vos – Law Firm in Brussels

Based in Brussels since 1987, Cherchi & De Vos – European Law Firm (formerly Cherchi & Partners) has, since its foundation, been committed to providing legal assistance that is both human-centered, rigorous, and firmly oriented toward Europe.

Assistance to citizens lies at the very heart of our philosophy.

Driven by the European spirit instilled by our founder, Mariapaola Cherchi, our firm has developed over the years a strong network of lawyers throughout Europe. Sharing our values and professional ethics, these partners enable us to defend our clients’ interests in several European countries: Belgium, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.

Our Legal Services

Cherchi & De Vos is a leading Brussels law firm offering legal services specializing in mediation-negotiation, business law (commercial and criminal), tax law, labor law, and real estate law. The firm provides personalized support to both individuals and companies, in Belgium and internationally.

Mediation services

We have set up a Mediation Center within our firm because, according to our philosophy, mediation should be the preferred alternative to judicial dispute resolution. Our Mediation Center is multidisciplinary (lawyers, attorneys, psychologists, experts from technical fields such as engineers and accountants) and multilingual (French, Italian, Dutch, and English).

Business law services

We support our clients in the business world in Belgium and Italy. We also have a partnership with a colleague in Liechtenstein who specializes in particular in the field of philanthropic associations (see our website).

Tax law services

We provide comprehensive advice and legal assistance in tax law matters, both in Belgium and Italy.

Real estate law services

We offer legal assistance in the purchase, sale, and rental of real estate on the Belgian and Italian markets. We also assist our clients before the Belgian and Italian courts in the event of legal proceedings.

Belgian family law services

In this area, we prioritize establishing dialogue between the parties concerned. The end of a relationship between two people is always a source of suffering, and the courthouse is not always the most appropriate place to find solutions. Mediation is therefore the first tool to be used. Only if this attempt at amicable resolution fails do we assist the client in legal proceedings.

Our experience has taught us that mediation cannot be prolonged for too long. If no solution is found within a reasonable period of time (for example, after three mediation sessions), there is a risk of an unregulated legal vacuum developing, to the detriment of the parties. In conclusion: yes to family mediation, provided that it is conducted with discernment and efficiency, in order to resolve the dispute without wasting time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Practical information and answers to frequently asked questions

1. What are your consultation fees?

The purpose of the first consultation is to provide the client with an initial assessment of the applicable law in their case and the possible avenues to follow in order to find a suitable solution.

During this first consultation, we carry out an initial analysis of the case by examining the documents provided by the client. At the end of the meeting, we deliver an initial legal opinion, outlining the different possible courses of action.

Hourly fees for a first consultation range between €300 (excl. VAT) and €600 (excl. VAT), depending on the complexity of the case.

2. How does your mediation service work?

We practice mediation either as mediators or as legal advisors, i.e., by assisting our client throughout the mediation process that concerns them.

The fundamental principle of mediation relies on the intervention of a neutral third party who facilitates dialogue between the conflicting parties in order to reach a voluntary agreement. This approach generally saves time and reduces costs compared to traditional court proceedings.

3. Do you handle international tax disputes?

Yes. We provide expert advice and legal representation in matters of international taxation, particularly for cases involving relations between Belgium and Italy.

4. What types of family law matters do you handle?

We handle divorces, separations, custody rights, and property settlements, favoring amicable and out-of-court solutions whenever possible.

5. What documents are required for a real estate transaction?

Required documents include, among others, property titles, previous survey reports, mortgage statements (if applicable), and all existing lease agreements.

6. Are remote consultations possible?

Yes. Our firm regularly offers remote consultations, either in writing (by email) or by video conference. The available consultation languages are French, Italian, Dutch, and English.
